The DAK surround the objective and punish the infantry!
This battle was against Brad aka PanzerKommander in preparation for the Paths of Glory tournament held at Perkins Hobby House in Petawawa. We decided to play a mission that neither of us had done before, Dust up! |

SETUP AND DEPLOYMENT
DAK is bottom right and German Infantry is top left. Objectives are in the centre of town, on the rocky hill, in the bend in the road and in the top left woods. |
Infantry Platoon 1 and 10.5cm guns deploy holding an objective and wary of Stukas... |
Nebs ready to dig in under the watchful eye of the 2IC |
Panzer III Ms ready to roll out |

German Infantry
|
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK:I deployed the Panzer III Ms on the far left so that I could use terrain to stop them from taking fire from the Marders. The observer is going to race forward into town and get into a building and the 2IC will advance on the objective forcing a platoon to stay there. German Infantry:The plan will be to have the Infantry move up and dig in on the objective supported by the guns and Marders. Hopefully reserves can come in before the infantry platoon is overwhelmed. |
TURN 1
The word is given and the Panzers roll out up the road |
Having learned his lesson the last time, the 2IC moves with a little more caution |

8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK:Panzer III Ms advance towards the village. 2IC moves towards the objective on the road. German Infantry:Infantry advance to counter the DAK 2IC while Marders move to find an advantageous position to engage the III Ms |
TURN 2
German Infantry continue to advance to counter the 2IC |
The woods prove too thick for the Marders bogging all of them! |
Panzer III Ms take the town, according to Matt Varnish I've won! |

|
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK:Panzers continue to advance slowly to ensure maximum use of machine guns. German Infantry:Marders will need to get unstuck quickly or the Panzers will run over the dismounted infantry. |
TURN 3
German Infantry are careful to stay hidden inside the fields..... |
Immediately digging in! |
The 10.5cm guns finally find a target and destroy a III M while bailing another |
Only 1 Marder frees itself from the thick woods |
The first flight of Stukas swoop in but cause no damage |

|
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK:The Stukas pinned the infantry but was unable to cause any real damage. The Panzers continue to advance undaunted by the loss of a tank. German Infantry:The Marders as a whole remain largely uneffective and the infantry platoon needs to hold the objective until replacements can arrive but those III Ms are getting really close! |
TURN 4
The III Ms are on top of the objective and start machine gunning the infantry |
German Panzer III Js arrive from reserve to support the beleaguer infantry |
The Marders finally free themselves and move to support the newly arrived III Js |
III Ms launch their assault and destroy 2 stands of infantry |
Nebs range in on the Marders but fail to do any damage |

German Infantry
|
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK:The initial DAK assault kills two stands and the platoon withdraws still contesting. German Infantry:The III Js have arrived but is it too little too late? They have a large portion of the board to cross and not a lot of time. |
TURN 5
III Ms continue their blood assault against the infantry killing another 3 stands and pushing them off the objective |

German Infantry
|
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK:The 8 Rads and III Ns arrive from reserve and advance quickly on the remnants of the infantry platoon. German Infantry:The III Js begin their move for the objective in the town trying to capture it before the infantry are wiped out. |
TURN 6
III Ns gun down the OC and 2IC leaving only the Pl Comd |
Newly arrived PaK 40 and infantry platoon 2 move along the far left flank |
10.5cm guns knock out an 8-Rad and bail a III M |
The OC and 2IC are both bailed by the III Js |
The Marders move from the woods to keep the DAK from winning only to be destroyed by the III Ms |
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK
|
German Infantry
|
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK:The III Ms are in firm possession of the objective and if the OC can remount there is a chance of being able to destroy the Germans piecemeal. German Infantry:With reinforcements coming in scattered across the table platoons are needed to feed the objective to stop an all out DaK win. |
TURN 7
Both the OC and 2IC remount and bail a III J |
The PaK 40s move along the road trying to get a bead on the Panzer IIIs |
Infantry platoon 2 trying to sneak up on the objective does not go unnoticed by the Nebs |
The III Js are feed into the objective machine only to lose one of their number to the III Ns |
The Infantry try to assault the old man and fail their tank terror, while the OC again stops an objective from being taken |
The return fire from the III Js bails a III N and has little other effect |
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK
|
German Infantry
|
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK:The OC manages to stop two separate platoons from taking objectives while his forces destroy platoons as they move up to oppose the objective. German Infantry:Platoons are out of position or lack the Anti-tank capability to destroy tanks sitting on the objective. |
This battle ended the next turn with a 6-1 win for the DAK. There was some bizarre luck in the first couple of turns where the Marders all bogged. The mission is a strange one and is an excellent example of how important mobility is in FoW. |

Great AAR! Love the DAK tanks very much.
ReplyDeleteHey now hey now hey now.. Its only "winning" if you are BRITISH and take the town, right chaps? Cheerio!
ReplyDeleteGreat bat rep, this was from more than a month ago right? I recall stuff being more painted in person!
@Matt your right this is a very old AAR. I have one more from before the tournament and then the 3 games from the tournament that I need to get up. I spent the last two weeks on Ex and the week before I would have lost huge wife points if I was doing the AAR up instead of anything else ;).
