The real reason Patton hated the Russians so much....
Game 2 of Operation Cobra (LW 1650 tournament) was against Matt and he was running a mixed tank/infantry Russian force. The mission was No Retreat with both of us have the always attack special rule but Matt was mechanized infantry and I was tanks so I got to attack.

The objectives are behind the hill in the centre and in the field behind the farm house on the right
T-34-85s guarding the rear objective from the tree line
Speztnas in their half tracks try and keep the spear head move to a minimum
Sherman tanks as far as the eye can see ready to roll out
Turn 1
Dakota, Dallas and Dixie move up to the hedge row ready to open fire on the dirty Reds
Recce leads the way pushing the Red ambush back into the tree line in front of Dublin's platoon
The Red air shows up but is shot down by the combined fire of all the .50 cals
An Easy 8 and Dublin are destroyed in the ambush!
Turn 2
Speztnas fall back their job done
The Jumbo and Easy 8 open fire and knock out all the ambushing assault guns!
Recce and the Stuarts open fire on the 2IC taking him out!
The other Sherman platoon opens fire and destroys 3 T-34-85s!
While the priests working with the AOP knock out another one and bail a fifth
Turn 3
Russian air power tries to take out Patton only to have him and the Easy 8 with him make their saves!
The view from the cockpit
The Shermans would destroy the OC and the remainder of the T-34-85s this turn breaking the Russian company. Matt was an excellent opponent and we had a very fun game. Matt's dice betrayed him more than a few time and I lucked out the same number. In the end it was another 6-1 victory for the US 7th Armored Div going into the last game of the tournament.
Nice report, great looking buildings, and the 'view from the cockpit' is really amazing, great pic!
ReplyDeleteGreat report and photo's. Good ol' American firepower carried the day!
