Schwere Panzers vs PanzerKompanie in Free for All

Never count a Big Cat out.....

This FNF my old man came out to play.  This was Big Willie Sr's (BWS) first game of FoW but he loves the idea and the history behind the game.  Ca$h from Table Top Tacticians played my PanzerKompaine against BWS' Big Cats.  As this was an intro game they decided to play a free for all with a bunch of the other guys joining us to cheer on the underdog (Ca$h) in this slugfest.

BWS Tigers
HQ - Tiger IE
Combat Platoons - 1 x Tiger IE, 1 x Tiger IE
Divisional Support - 3 x Sections of Armoured Pioneers and a pair of 8-Rads

Ca$h's Panzers
HQ - Panzer III M and IV H
Combat Platoons - 4 x IV E's, 4 x III M & IV H
Divisional Support - Priority Stuka dive bomber support

TURN 1
The Big Cats deploy on the hill and into the village while the Panzers crowd around the far left wood

Tigers on the prowl... hit 2 Panzers but fail to destroy them (something that will become a common theme)

In a game of cat and mouse with smaller cats?

Pioneers move out mindful of being the softest target on the table

The Panzers remount and move out to make sure they close the distance with the Big Cats

Ca$h has his Panzer's hugging the terrain for maximum effectiveness

The Pioneers are the first casualties, falling quickly to the fire power of the IV E's

A sole Stuka flies in bombing a Tiger to no effect

Casualties
BWS
2 x Half tracks
4 x Pioneers stands

Ca$h
Nil
TURN 2
Undaunted the Pioneers roll forward to max an armoured assault, hopefully the motivation test goes well.....

The Big Cats dominate the ground, but the little cats are using cover very effectively

The first Big Cat falls to a single dive bombing Stuka!

The Pioneers fail their motivation test to assault and then are chewed up by the IV E's.  They fail their morale and quick the field.  The little cats pour fire into the closet Tiger bailing it!

Casualties
BWS
Tiger IE Platoon
Pioneers Platoon

Ca$h
Nil
TURN 3

The Tiger fails to remount, while the OC pours fire into the IV H's who are threatening his Heavy tanks but again fail to destroy with a firepower of 3+

This time 2 planes arrive to support the little cats to no effect while the IV H's combine fire to cause another bail test, which turns into a motivation test that the Tiger's crew fail, quitting the field!

Casualties
BWS
Tiger IE Platoon
Tiger IE Platoon
Pioneers Platoon

Ca$h
Nil
TURN 4

Finally the Big Cats strike back, passing their Company morale and then destroying 2 of the charging IV E's

Casualties
BWS
Tiger IE Platoon
Tiger IE Platoon
Pioneers Platoon

Ca$h
2 x IV E's
TURN 5

The Big Cat again passes his Company Morale and destroys 2 Panzer III M's due to fail gun tank shots!

The game would go on for several more turns with Ca$h losing a platoon of III M's with a IV H but eventually the luck of BWS' Company morale test fails and the OC decides that desecration is the better part of valour.

Stay tuned for next week, I'm hoping to get all the Big Cats painted in time for Total War at the 1500 pt level and do up an AAR for it.

  1. Really nice terrain you guys were playing on! This Bat Rep got me back into painting for FOW. Hope your dad had a good time and remembered to dig his Pioneers in next time, and leave those Tommy Cookers er I mean half tracks behind :)
