Lords of War MW Flames of War De-escalation tournament

Shaun's German Grenadiers

This last weekend Lords of War held a Flames of War MW de-escalation tournament. We played 3 games starting at 90, then 71 and finally 50 points. This drop in points is excellent for allowing the games to finish faster and making sure that as players get tired the games go faster. As always the guys a Lords of War were fantastic and they run a very tight ship for their tournaments. I will be doing battle reports for my games in the coming days but in the mean time here are some pictures of peoples armies.

US Armoured Rifles vs US Light tanks in No Retreat

Shemans wading through the carnage while dominating the battlefield!

Game 3 of the Lords of War 80 point MW tournament was against Matt and his Stuart horde in No Retreat. My entire force is mechanised and while Matt had way more tanks than I did but he also had an entire infantry formation as part of his army which meant that I would be attacking. The deep immediate reserves were going to work in my favour limiting Matt to only a single tank platoon.

US Armoured Rifles vs DAK Infantry in Counterattack

Shermans flank DAK Panzers while US infantry hold the line!

Game 2 of the Lords of War MW 80 point tournament was against Dean and his DAK infantry. This would mark my second ever game of v4. Again I'm sure that I made mistakes but I would like to think that I'm slowly starting to understand the mechanics of v4. The mission was Counterattack which was going to make it hard on Dean as he would have to race me across the desert to secure the far objective and I would be mounted.

US Armoured Rifles vs British Tanks in Encounter

Capt America watches the advance of his Howling Commandos

My first game of v4 was as part of the Lords of War 80 point MW tournament. I've been playing Team Yankee and had played v3 so I figured I'd be good. I was lucky enough to be paired with Craig who was going to help guide me through this voyage of discovery with his Desert Rat tanks.

Lords of War MW 80 pt tournament

Lords of War 80 MW tournament ahead!

Yesterday I had the chance to play in the Lords of War MW 80 point tournament in Oakville. This was my first time playing v4 so I'm sure that I made a bunch of mistakes but I had a great time and as always Lords of War is a great place to play games. I have battle reports coming but here are some of the armies and some actions shots. The calibre of the finished armies was incredible and it looks awesome to see them facing off against each other.

We're paratroopers Lieutenant. We're supposed to have 3 full platoons.

Finally finished my US Airborne troops (the infantry part). It was the old box of 3 full platoons. 161 figures all told, and it took years because I undercoated them, and the coat turned into that horrible snow like powder. Had to remove it with a toothbrush, and after that I didn't feel like painting them anymore, until now.

Every platoon comes with a tow cart, bazooka, medium mortar, leader team, and 9 fireteams(!)
The HQ comes with the Old man, 2nd IC, 3 bazookas, and 3 snipers, oh and a pathfinder. I started back on them because I got into Fireball Forward (http://fireballforward.com/) which is a great alternative to FOW, and all the book's scenarios use Easy Company.

I will eventually paint the supporting 75mm pack arty, and MGs for these guys but I just can't be buggered painting infantry 15mm for a while, so I'll be doing something like 28mm or tanks or something instead. Will probably finish my Germans or even get going on the snow covered Finns perhaps..

But regardless, here they are, nicely static grassed which is new for me in 15mm. No insignias because that's too small.

Before I forget, the colors I used on all the infantry, here they are. I had to change some colors from the old GW colors half way through. Its a mixture of Vallejo and GW.
(GW changes shown in this table:

Skin: Base GW Doombull Brown, Highlight GW Tallarn Flesh
Rifle Stock: GW Bestial Brown or Vallejo Chocolate Brown
Uniform: Vallejo US Dark Green
Helmet/Bazookas: Vallejo Olive Grey
Foliage on Helmet: GW Camo Green
Tires and random grey: GW Adeptus Battlegrey
Webbing: Vallejo Green Grey
Ink: GW Devlan Mud, or GW Agrax Earthshade
Base: Base Vallejo Chocolate Brown or GW Bestial Brown, GW Highlight Gorthor Brown, Final Highlight GW Tan

Mid War US tanks vs Canadian Tanks in Hasty Attack

Shermans ready to advance!

Today at Gamezilla, I played a second game, this time against Mark.  The armies were mid war.  For the US, I had a tank company (Confident Trained):
OC and 2IC in Stuarts
Stuart Platoon (4 tanks)
Sherman Platoon (4 tanks)
Armored Rifle Platoon (2 bazookas)
Recon Platoon (2 sections in jeeps, HQ and bazooka in halftrack)
M10 TD Platoon
105mm Howitzer Platoon

The Canadians had a tank company (Confident Trained):
OC and 2IC in Sherman IIIs
2 x Sherman III platoons (3 x Shermans each)
2 x Recon Platoons (in Bren carriers, British, and confident vets)
2 x Infantry Platoons (Brits, confident vets)
Limited Air (Hurricane)
And I think that was it....

Set Up
The Canadians rolled off, and won the ability to attack.  The defender (me) has to hold two objectives, both on the left.  One near, one mid.  The objective I placed is on the far, left, on top of that hill.

2 x Pl (SdKfz 205/1)
