8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK vs Free French Armored Rifles in Encounter

A lone Stuka swoops in for the kill!

This was the final battle for the Paths of Glory and both Matt Varnish and I were coming off two 6 - 1 wins. I love playing against MVs armies they are exceptionally well painted with a ton of thought and research put into them. The final mission was going to be Encounter with me being the attacker. This was going to be the first mission that I was going to be the attacker and although I was rocking a tank force I was more than a little concerned with attacking all those armoured rifles!

DEPLOYMENT SUMMARY
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division, DAK: I deployed both tank platoons holding the Nebs and 8-Rads in reserve in the hopes that I can dig the Infantry out quickly before reserves arrive.
French 2ieme DB (US Armoured Rifles): The French deployed both full armoured rifle platoons without their half tracks and the two tank platoons held in reserve. The intent being that they will be either the counter punch or they they be able to move around an exposed flank.

TURN 1 SUMMARY
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division, DAK: Panzers advance quickly in an attempt to hammer the infantry but are they exposing a flank?
French 2ieme DB (US Armoured Rifles): Rifles either move into bullet proof cover or dig in waiting for the armour to show.

TURN 2

Shermans arrive from reserve and despite random deployment they arrive on the Panzers exposed flank!

The Free French Force Ariene arrives destroying a III M and bailing another

The Shermans and Hurricane destroy 3 x III Ms and bail another!

French 2ieme DB (US Armoured Rifles): The timely and precise arrival of the Shermans and Hurricanes took out almost a whole platoon of III Ms in one turn of shooting!

TURN 3

III Ns and remaining III Ms turn to face the newly arrived Shermans

Only to bail 2 tanks!!!

TURN 3 SUMMARY
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division, DAK: It seems like this is going to be a very uphill battle. None of my tank rounds seem to be able to make it through the solid steel from Detroit. I really started to hate seeing the Free French Circle!
French 2ieme DB (US Armoured Rifles): The shooting has gone really well and the advantage of front loading the Panzers is quickly disappearing.

TURN 4

The Luftwaffe hears the request for help and a lone Stuka swoops in to take out a newly arrived Stuart

The Shermans push hard to the objective and take out another III N before the Panzers are finally able to take one out

French 2ieme DB (US Armoured Rifles): The infantry sense the Panzers are on their last legs and start to advance on the beleagued tanks.

TURN 5 SUMMARY
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division, DAK: At this point I had lost both tank platoons and only the 8-Rads were left. The OC couldn't hold the company together and they withdrew to figure out how the French had won the day.
French 2ieme DB (US Armoured Rifles): The armoured column arrived in time and in the right order with the Shermans smashing the exposed flank of the Panzers.
This was a 1 - 6 game for me and I had a blast, MVs armies look great and its always fun to play against him. He went on to win the whole thing so I don't feel too bad for losing. I get him next time! Gary from Perkins Hobby supported Bob as he ran the Paths of Glory tournament and they did an outstanding job. As always first class support and organization. I'm hoping that I get to finish my first EW battle report shortly.
