8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Division DAK vs German Infantry in Dust up

The DAK surround the objective and punish the infantry!

This battle was against Brad aka PanzerKommander in preparation for the Paths of Glory tournament held at Perkins Hobby House in Petawawa. We decided to play a mission that neither of us had done before, Dust up!

German Infantry
  • 3 x Panzer III J
  • 3 x PaK 40
  • Infantry Platoon 2

DEPLOYMENT SUMMARY
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK:I deployed the Panzer III Ms on the far left so that I could use terrain to stop them from taking fire from the Marders. The observer is going to race forward into town and get into a building and the 2IC will advance on the objective forcing a platoon to stay there.
German Infantry:The plan will be to have the Infantry move up and dig in on the objective supported by the guns and Marders. Hopefully reserves can come in before the infantry platoon is overwhelmed.

TURN 1

The word is given and the Panzers roll out up the road

Having learned his lesson the last time, the 2IC moves with a little more caution

German Infantry:Marders will need to get unstuck quickly or the Panzers will run over the dismounted infantry.

TURN 3

German Infantry are careful to stay hidden inside the fields.....

The 10.5cm guns finally find a target and destroy a III M while bailing another

German Infantry:The Marders as a whole remain largely uneffective and the infantry platoon needs to hold the objective until replacements can arrive but those III Ms are getting really close!

TURN 4

The III Ms are on top of the objective and start machine gunning the infantry

German Panzer III Js arrive from reserve to support the beleaguer infantry

The Marders finally free themselves and move to support the newly arrived III Js

TURN 7

Both the OC and 2IC remount and bail a III J

The PaK 40s move along the road trying to get a bead on the Panzer IIIs

Infantry platoon 2 trying to sneak up on the objective does not go unnoticed by the Nebs

The III Js are feed into the objective machine only to lose one of their number to the III Ns

The Infantry try to assault the old man and fail their tank terror, while the OC again stops an objective from being taken

  • 2 x Panzer III M
  • 1 x 8-Rad
German Infantry
  • OC and 2IC
  • Infantry platoon 1
  • Marder platoon
  • 1 x Panzer III J

TURN 7 SUMMARY
8th Panzer Regiment, 15th Panzer Division DAK:The OC manages to stop two separate platoons from taking objectives while his forces destroy platoons as they move up to oppose the objective.
German Infantry:Platoons are out of position or lack the Anti-tank capability to destroy tanks sitting on the objective.
This battle ended the next turn with a 6-1 win for the DAK. There was some bizarre luck in the first couple of turns where the Marders all bogged. The mission is a strange one and is an excellent example of how important mobility is in FoW.

  3. @Matt your right this is a very old AAR. I have one more from before the tournament and then the 3 games from the tournament that I need to get up. I spent the last two weeks on Ex and the week before I would have lost huge wife points if I was doing the AAR up instead of anything else ;).
