Brit Infantry vs Tyne and Tees in Breakthrough!

The tanks call Arty in danger close as they try to take each other out!

This Wednesday night I was able to get a game in against Louie.   We were playing in preparation for Battle Cry a 1500 pts late war tournament that will be held at Perkins Hobby House.  There are several missions that it could be so Louie and I decided to play Breakthrough.  My list looked like this:

GROUND ORIENTATION
The objectives are both on the roads on the far right in the near ground.  I have the 25 pdrs dug in behind the hedge, a platoon on the outside of the village and on the other side of the board another rifle platoon and the mortars dug in.  Louie decided to outflank with a platoon of infantry and his Achilles.

TURN 1
Infantry double across the ford to ensure they hold the objective

The other platoon doubles into the wheat field to ensure they hold the other objective

First blood goes to the Brits who take out an observer for the 25 pdrs!

Staghounds and Infantry advance across the open undaunted by the TT mortars

The 3" mortars range in and pin the advancing infantry

The AOP spots the 5.5" guns and the 25 pdrs fire a Stonk knocking out 2 guns!

The Brit 25 pdrs respond by pinning the TT guns

TURN 2
Staghounds move in guns blazing against the mortars.  They shoot then assault knocking out 2 tubes but the mortars are able to break contact and withdraw deeper into the woods.

With only 4 guns able to fire they try and knock out the Brit 25 pdrs with no success

Universal Carriers arrive engaging the Staghounds and the Infantry.  They manage to knock out a Staghound and break the infantry in combat setting them back a turn.

TURN 3
Crocs arrive and start engaging the Shermans

UC's take out the remaining Staghounds

Brit 25 pdrs continue to fire on the TT guns with little effect

Infantry prepare to dig in around the objective, but the ground is to hard

The wheat fields prove to be easier digging for the other platoon.

The Brit guns finally knock out a TT 25 pdr

Achilles follow in behind the Crocs to take out the Shermans (this was an awful turn with me on the dice).  I didn't even end up hitting the Shermans with anything (Crocs, Achilles or Arty)

On the other flank Brit infantry shows up only to be engaged by both platoons who pin them and are then assaulted wiping the platoon out while only losing 2 stands!

TURN 4
The Shermans and Brit arty combine to knock out the Achilles and all but one Croc!

The UC's advance on the remaining infantry platoon and prepare to take the out completely!

The remaining Croc and Arty destroy a Sherman and bail another two.  I forget here to roll for firepower to try and destroy the Shermans (oops, I won't forget again)

The 25 pdrs continue to harass the TT guns taking out the platoon commander

The final Croc goes down to the combined fire of the Shermans and 5.5" guns

The AOP quickly moves to allow the TT guns to engage the 5.5" guns

Shermans move to engage the 25 pdrs with no effect

Achilles come onto the board only to be knocked out by the combined fire of 25 pdrs over open sights and assaulting infantry.  One is knocked out and the other withdraws quickly!

TURN 7
Combined fire from the 6 pdrs and 2 Infantry platoons takes out the remaining Achilles.  At this point Louie is below half and no where near the objective so we call it 4-3.

This was an awesome game and like every game with Louie we ended up just smashing each other.  I'm hoping that I don't have to play him for the tournament on the 20th because we will both end up with bloody noses.

Hey big Willie, good AAR, very exciting watching it go back and forth, however i did notice one mistake, at the beginning some infantry doubled across a ford, usually a ford is difficult going and you can't move at the double across difficult going unless you have a special rule for it like Rangers for example.
